Working together to use our homes to combat climate change.

Electrify DC’s mission is to make it easier, faster and more affordable to decarbonize all homes.

Our work matters because

Our homes produce 25% of the pollution of the District of Columbia

To bring that down to 0%, we need to produce more renewable energy (mainly by adding solar), consume less energy (through insulation and more energy-efficient appliances like heat pumps), and stop burning fossil fuels in our homes (by phasing out gas appliances like furnaces, gas water heaters, gas dryers, and gas stoves). This is called decarbonizing our homes.

Pollution in our homes affects the health of District residents

12.7% of asthma cases are directly linked to the burning of fossil fuels in our homes. The toxins produced by burning fossil fuels in our homes cause respiratory and cognitive problems especially for children and the elderly.

Decarbonizing creates economic opportunity

Through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the Federal Government has put at every homeowners’ fingertips over $14,000 in upfront rebates and tens of thousands of dollars in tax credits. We want all homeowners and renters to access these funds. The federal government also provides significant funding for workforce development. We want to equip our businesses and career seekers to use those funds.

What do we mean by Decarbonization?

By electrifying your home and getting your energy from renewable sources, you become part of the solution to the climate crisis. Each home and appliance counts, and every one who makes the transition helps to turn the tide toward a healthy future!
