Demonstration Sites

The climate-related actions of trusted friends, relatives, and neighbors can have a profound effect on the people around them.
— Climate Coach Michael J. Coren

Electrify DC aims to support one demonstration site in each of the 132 neighborhoods of the District and throughout the DC region. By making the process of decarbonizing a home more public and accessible, we demystify it while providing opportunities for early adopters to share their knowledge with their communities.

A capillary network of demonstrations sites in building typologies common for each neighborhood, in high-visibility and high-traffic locations, at different stages of decarbonization, allows homeowners to become more familiar with the concept of electrified homes that might look like theirs. By being invited to visit these demonstration sites during open house style events, members of the public can experience up close the temperature, comfort, ease of use of appliances, and can ask questions and learn from their neighbors.

How you can help

If you are in the process of electrifying your home or already did, consider sharing your journey with your neighborhood joining Electrify DC’s Demonstration Sites program by becoming a Demonstration Site host.

Electrify DC will provide pointers to local government grants and programs, connections with contractors, and know-how. We will support you in engaging your community through open houses, presentations, and social media.

Your thinking, approach, what worked, and what did not, including pictures of your home, kids, and pets, can help a neighbor begin their electrification journey and get one step closer to a net zero future.

Can our first post be about how much I hate the smell of gas? ;-)
— Nicole, Petworth homeowner, mother of three
We have radiators like the rest of our neighborhood. If we manage to switch to a heat pump, we want to be able to share that information with all of our neighbors.
— Lee, Capitol Hill homeowner, father of three
If our journey can be helpful to all the families that drop off their kids at the school across the road, we would gladly become a demonstration site!
— Kim, owner of a rambler in Brightwood
